People's United Bank Vermont City Marathon & Relay

The People’s United Bank Vermont City Marathon Update - 07.06.20

Despite our highest hopes, hard work, and careful deliberation, the RunVermont team is disappointed to announce that we will be not be able to run the People’s United Bank Vermont City Marathon & Relay on October 25, 2020. After consultations with state officials, it’s clear that a large public event with several thousand people will not be possible, even in late October. While we are saddened to report this news, we understand the decision and respect that safety comes first. Therefore, we will plan to run the 32nd edition of the People’s United Bank Vermont City Marathon on May 30, 2021. The Timberlane Dental Group Mini Marathon will Occur on May 29, 2021.

But here’s some better news. During these unprecedented and extraordinary times, we have amended our deferral policies that were announced when the race was postponed. Your options moving forward are:

Deferral and transfer options for VCM 2020
**Deadline is August 23, 2020 for deferrals and transfers**

1. The registration fee paid for the 2020 race will be applied as a full credit toward either your 2021 or 2022 registration. For relay teams, this credit would only be valid for the Team Captain (i.e. the person who actually paid for the team). Those joining the team for $0 would not have any credit to apply.

2. This credit also applies to those who selected the Virtual Option. You 'virtuals' can go 'real' in either 2021 or 2022.

3. Your credit is based on the registration fee and does not include any add-ons purchased or donations you might have made.

4. As always you have the option to transfer from one event to another. For example, marathoners can apply their registration fee toward a relay team.

Deferral instructions to either 2021 or 2022
Marathoners and Relay Team Captains can defer to either the 2021 or 2022 Vermont City Marathon. Deferrals can be used when registration opens for the 2021 or 2022 race. At that point you'll be able to claim your deferral credit and register. Relay team captains can register teams and invite their team members to join. To defer, follow these steps:

1. Log into RunSignup.com and go to your profile: https://runsignup.com/Profile

2. Navigate to Profile > Upcoming Events > Manage Registration > Defer Registration

3. Click the 'Confirm Deferral' button

4. For detailed instructions please visit https://help.runsignup.com/support/solutions/articles/1700006291-defer-registration-claim-deferral and feel free to contact registration@runvermont.org

Transfer to the Virtual Option
For the Virtual Option you would run either the marathon or your relay leg distance on your own anywhere and anytime between May 24th and October 25th, and report your results by first going to https://runsignup.com/runvcm/results and then clicking on the 'Submit Virtual Results' button, and then by sending us a picture of your GPS watch or an online training page confirming your distance and time. Following an approval process, we’ll include your result in the race results and send you your shirt and medal. We currently have a Virtual version of the race already enabled so all you need to do is transfer to the Virtual event. To complete your transfer, follow these steps:

1. Log into RunSignup.com and go to your profile: https://runsignup.com/Profile

2. Navigate to Profile > Upcoming Events > Manage Registration > Transfer Event

3. Select the virtual event which you'd like to transfer to

4. You will receive an e-mail confirming your transfer was successful

5. For detailed instructions please visit https://help.runsignup.com/support/solutions/articles/17000062922-transfer-to-another-event and feel free to contact registration@runvermont.org.

Donate
Please let us know if you'd rather have RunVermont -- a non-profit 501(c)(3) -- earmark your registration fee for our Youth Programs. Your donation is tax deductible.

Refunds Are Not An Option – As a 501(c)3 organization, RunVermont expends almost all income generated from registration before the race actually occurs. In a good year, we might see a modest “profit” from the race that is applied to reserves for future events and unforeseen circumstances. Those reserves will now be utilized for us to continue to prepare for 2021 and offer a full credit of the fees paid by 2020 registrants.
