Participation Policies

  • We do not offer refunds. Policies
  • Transfer and Deferral Policies
  • Deferrals are allowed only for those registered for the Marathon unless you have purchased insurance. Deferral deadline is 11:59pm on May 17, 2020. If you defer you will receive $40 off next year’s marathon registration fee.
  • Purchase deadline for insurance is 11:59pm on May 17, 2020. Details Here
  • Transfers are allowed from the Marathon to either Relay – once Relay is open and until sold out. Transfer deadline is May 17, 2020.
  • Those transferring from the Marathon to a Relay are no longer eligible for registration insurance or deferral.

Participation Policy

  • All runners must stay on the designated race course.
  • Participants must finish within 6.5 hours and keep to a sub 13:45 minute-per-mile pace.
  • Bikes, in-line skates, strollers, dogs, and skateboards are not allowed on the course.
  • Headphones are not prohibited but are strongly discouraged.
  • The marathon is sanctioned and certified by USATF (Course certification #VT11006RF).

Bandit/Bib Transfer Policy

  • RunVermont events are organized and conducted according to USATF and RRCA rules.
  • Anyone who participates in an event produced by RunVermont must be properly registered and must have paid any required registration fees before the start of the race.
  • Entrants in RunVermont events will be given a race bib for scoring purposes and to aid course officials in identifying legitimate participants during the event.
  • Bibs may not be transferred from a registered participant to any other person. A registered runner who provides their bib to another runner will also be treated as an unregistered runner and subject to the sanctions described here.
  • For VCM Relay Participants only: the transfer of relay team ownership is permissible, as long as the transfer is conducted in the manner prescribed on the official race website.
  • Individuals who participate in any RunVermont event without registering will be removed from the race.
  • RunVermont reserves the right to bar unregistered participants from future RunVermont events.
  • Unregistered individuals participating in RunVermont events may also be subject to additional sanctions from USATF and/or RRCA.
  • Additional sanctions may be taken including prosecution for theft of services.

The Team Captain will automatically be charged the relay team fee on the credit card supplied during registration. A registration is not complete if an invalid credit card is used. Team Captains will receive an e-mail with a link to your team page; don’t lose this e-mail! At your team page you can change your team name, invite your teammates, and add/remove teammates and Team Captain(s).

Team Captain Responsibilities

Team Captains are responsible for naming the team and inviting team members to join their team and register. Prior to race weekend, the Team Captain must also designate ONE person (themselves or a team member) to pick-up the team’s packet at The Sport & Fitness Expo. The team member picking up the team packet must already be on the team and provide a valid photo ID.

Team Registration (including Team Captain/Team Member Changes):

RunVermont must be informed of ALL relay team changes prior to the start of the race or the team will be disqualified and ineligible for any awards or prizes. This may affect your ability to participate in future races.

Deadlines: All team changes must be made online by end of day May 17, 2020. There is no fee for team changes through May 17, 2020. After May 17, 2020 ALL team changes must be made at The Sport & Fitness Expo on May 22 & 23. A $25 late-change fee will apply; proceeds from this fee will be donated to the RunVermont Youth Running Programs.

You will need:

  • Name, DOB and emergency contact info for all NEW team members
  • $25 cash, credit card, or check (made out to RunVermont). $25 fee is per team, not per change.

Participation Policy

RunVermont reserves the right to restrict participation in any event for violation of RunVermont rules and regulations.

  • All runners must be registered to participate.
  • Running under someone else’s name is grounds for disqualification according to USATF rules.
  • Relay Teams may be transferred online through May 17, 2020; after this date all team changes (including captain changes) must be made in person at the Relay Change Desk at the Expo on Race Weekend.
  • Team Captains may consider using social media to find someone to take an unwanted team and/or for a team to find a runner(s) to fill their team
  • RunVermont must be informed of ALL relay team changes prior to the start of the race or the team will be disqualified and ineligible for any awards or prizes. This may affect your ability to participate in future races.
  • Relay teams may not defer a team to the next year
  • All runners must stay on the designated race course.
  • Participants must finish within 6 hours and keep to a sub 13:45 minute pace per mile.
