Vermont's Most Scenic Marathon

Every Memorial Day Weekend, more than 7,500 runners, 20,000 spectators and 1,700 volunteers come to Burlington Vermont for the People's United Bank Vermont City Marathon - the second largest marathon in New England and the largest marathon relay in the nation. The clover leaf course design allows specators to easily see runners at various mileage points during the race. The electrifying energy brought from the Taiko drummers, Burlington neighborhoods and the Church Street Marketplace provides a commmunity experience unlike any other marathon event. The course takes runners along the Adirondack and Green Mountain framed shores of Lake Champlain for unmatched scenic beauty. In addition to the marathon, RunVermont organizes a number of running events and community-based youth programs promoting a lifelong commitment to running.

The People’s United Bank Vermont City Marathon & Relay will run in 2021 and has been rescheduled for Sunday, October 24, 2021 from its traditional Memorial Day weekend date.  Guidance from Vermont state officials, who have provided one of our country’s most effective responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, has led RunVermont to conclude that moving forward with a large gathering in late May might not be possible. We will turn our attention to presenting the event in the Fall, allowing for more time to prepare a better experience for runners and the community at large.

At this time, we will not be opening registration to new runners. All 2020 entrants will receive detailed instructions with next steps to renew registration, defer, or transfer.
