The People’s United Bank Vermont City Marathon announces a 33% increase in the prize purse for 2015 Race Burlington, Vermont  – RunVermont and the People’s United Bank Vermont City Marathon is proud to announced that they have increased the prize purse by 33% for the 2015 race.

A total of $21,300 in prize money will be available for individual racers and clubs at this year’s event. The race will continue to pay six deep in open, three deep in masters, and the top Vermonters, as well as the winners of the hand cycle and push-rim wheelchair divisions. First Place prize money in the open division will increase from $2500 to $3000, with First place in the master’s division (40+ years old) increasing from $500 to $750. In addition to the prize money, bonus money is available for any eligible runners who achieve a time that meets the Olympic Trials Standards. Those achieving the A standard will receive a $1000 bonus and those who achieve the B standard will receive a $500 bonus (A standards are 2:15:00 for men and 2:37:00 for women, gun times. B standards are 2:18:00 for men and 2:43:00 for women, gun times). Only athletes who are eligible to compete in the US Olympic Trials are eligible for those bonus payments. A $1000 bonus is also available for a course record, with $500 available for a master’s course record. For our top Vermont runners; should a Vermont resident win either the open or masters division we will double their first place prize money.

The People’s United Bank Vermont City Marathon is the largest sporting event in Vermont with over 8000 runners competing in the marathon and relay events. It is a fast and spectator friendly course; highlighting the historic city streets as well as the majestic lake and mountain views of Burlington, VT.
