1. Sunday, January 23rd:
Kidney Donor Athletes

The first day of marathon training for the 2022 M&T Bank Vermont City Marathon & Relay! This race will support our dear friend and amazing volunteer Rebekah Thomas's mission to summit Mount Kilimanjaro with nonprofit Kidney Donor Athletes. Rebekah has donated a kidney and a portion of her liver to those in need. She is an outstanding athlete and is raising funds to spread awareness of the importance of organ donations before her Kilimanjaro climb in March.

Rebekah's resume on giving back is quite impressive. She began donating blood, platelet and plasma at the American Red Cross in college and 25+ years later is still giving the gift of life on a regular basis. She has been a mentor for First Strides Vermont, a beginning walking and running program for women, for the past 16 years, and a pacer with On Pace Race, pacing races in various locations in the US, including the Mad Marathon in Waitsfield. She has been a cherished volunteer of RunVermonts for many years and we are thrilled to support her on this incredible mission!

Women have come a tremendously long way in the sport of running and now dominate race fields everywhere.
