USATF New England Grand Prix MarathonRunVermont is thrilled to announce that the People’s United Bank Vermont City Marathon was selected as the USATF New England Grand Prix Marathon Championship for 2020. With global attention already looking ahead to the upcoming Summer Olympics and the excitement building around running and marathon record achievements, RunVermont is proud to host the largest single-day sporting event in Vermont, attracting more than 8,000 runners and 20,000 spectators to Burlington and the shores of Lake Champlain for the 32nd annual event on Sunday, May 24th.   

From the Taiko drummers on Battery Street, to the businesses owners on the Church Street Marketplace and the residents in the Burlington neighborhoods along the course route, the electrifying community engagement provides an experience for runners of the People’s United Bank Vermont City Marathon unlike any other marathon event.  

With a total prize purse of $18,000 (including individual and Grand Prix team prize awards), there will be a large pot of gold at the finish line! USATF members will receive a discounted entry into the race as a benefit of their membership. Did you know in addition to the marathon distance, the People’s United Bank Vermont City Marathon also features the largest marathon relay event in the nation?! Teams of 2-5 runners can participate in the full event experience with family members, friends or coworkers.   

And don’t forget to bring the kiddos! The day before the marathon, future marathoners (age 4-14) can participate in the Timberlane Dental Group Mini Marathon with ½-mile, 1-mile, and 2-mile distance options. A portion of the proceeds help support RunVermont youth program initiatives aimed at inspiring young community members to achieve wellness goals while participating in fun outdoor activities.   

And if you haven’t registered already, the Half Marathon Unplugged on Saturday, April 11th is the perfect supported training run to prepare you for the marathon!
