Shane Beam – KBVCM Rookie Applicant

in This Rookie's Ramblings (2014)

I ran cross country in high school. I wasn’t any good at it (ran to get in shape for basketball), by any stretch of the imagination. College came and went, but the pounds came with it- ‘Freshman 15′? I put that on…almost every semester. April 2012 I weighed 380 pounds. At last check I was 200 pounds. I have entered my results to Beachbody and even won a ‘Daily Prize’ for my weight loss story.

Unfortunately, I’ve hit that ‘wall’. I need something to reach my ultimate goal- 175 pounds, over 200 pounds lost. I’ve transformed my life, and I think running a marathon will continue to do that. Less than 2 years ago I could barely walk a mile in 20 minutes…now I’m registered to run 26.2. Wow.

I’ve run a few 5K’s since I started my journey, even ran a half-marathon last April (so in 1 year I went from walking a mile at best, to running 13.1)- I finished something like 180/800 people. My time was just under 1:47…not too bad. At this point, I need to have that extra thing to push me- I really think training for a marathon would do just that.

I’m active with social media, to an extent (who isn’t nowadays!?). I have a degree in communications, so theoretically I know how to functionally communicate with others. I’ve been told I’m funny…by others, not just myself, I promise :-) I often get mistaken for Matt Damon…lucky him, right? I would love to do this blog, so please choose me!

Shane,

I’m so impressed! I’m also running my first marathon at Burlington in May, but your devotion and drive should motivate anybody.

Shane,
I can’t believe how much you have accomplished in such a short amount of time. It’s incredible how much hard work you have done…wish I had that motivation! Keep up the good work!

I met Shane several years ago through mutual friends. He was an absolute sweetheart, hilarious, the life of the party, and, to be frank, was also a very large large individual. During a party, he slipped, fell to the floor, and decided to stay there for the rest of the night. He was slumped up against the wall and didn’t move for hours – three years later and now he doesn’t stop moving.

I’ve had the privilege of watching Shane transform. I’ve followed his adventures through both Facebook and Instagram. His posts were so inspiring he helped me quit soda without even knowing it. Every time he posted how long it had been since his last Mt. Dew, it gave me hope. He was also one of the people who inspired me to start running. I figured if he could do it, I could do it too. I’ve read all of his posts from when he was struggling through a 5k to powering through half marathons. He is always running, writing and motivating. He has an addictive positive outlook and oozes determination.

Way to be, Shane. You’re amazing!!!

There are Mountains and you have managed to plow through instead of going around them. Your the best at whatever you do.
A saying you nanny used to say ( Postman Postman Don’t be Slow be like Shane Micheal & Go Man Go..)
