If you have kids, you know that they change their mind about what they want to do or not do almost as fast as a Vermont sky can change from brilliant blue to grim gray. So when I make my next suggestion, you might think me a little crazy, but trust me, I have my reasons.
Registration for the 13th Annual MVP Heath Care YAM Scram is open and you should register TODAY.
For those of you new to the KeyBank Vermont City Marathon and our weekend of events, the YAM Scram is our youth running festival that takes place on Saturday, May 25. Children ages 4-14 can participate in a 1/2-mile, 1-mile or 2-mile run and all participants receive a medal, t-shirt and goody bag. Approximately 800 children participate in the event.
We changed our price structure last year to encourage multiple sibling participation. Now through March 31, register 1 child for $20, or two siblings for $40, 3+ siblings for a total of $50. From April 1-April 30, the price goes up to $20 per kiddo with no sibling discount. If we still have room in the event come May, registration will be $30/child until the event is sold out.
So, why register NOW? The most important reason is that the event WILL SELL OUT. Every year we receive calls from well-meaning parents asking if there isn’t “just one more” spot available for their son or daughter because they didn’t realize that registration would fill. (It will fill!)
The second reason I suggest registering now is that you’ll receive 1 complimentary ticket to a June, 2013 Lake Monsters game with every registration. That’s one more thing to look forward to.
Third, registering now means you have one less thing to think about next month when you’re even deeper in throws of training for the KeyBank Vermont City Marathon. And you ARE registered for that already, aren’t you?
Not convinced yet?
Here’s a one-minute time lapse video of the event so you can get a sense of what it’s all about.

But really, it’s the voice of these kids (part One, part II) that we think make our case then best. (Thanks to Tim Bomba, KBVCM race announcer for the interviews and recordings.)
And our final reason? If you don’t, this young man will pay you a visit.
