This year RunVermont is thrilled to have three* talented student interns working with us. Please join us in welcoming them to the fun and fabulous frenzy that is preparing for the KeyBank Vermont City Marathon and MVP Heath Care YAM Scram. (*Actually, we have four, but we’ll introduce our Graphic Design Intern, Kelsey, when she joins us in March.)
Danielle Rancourt – Youth Intern
Hi! I’m Danielle, a 21 year old Junior studying at the University of Vermont. I am majoring in Dietetics, Nutrition and Food Sciences in the College of Arts and Agriculture. My hometown is Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, which is about a 9-10 hour drive north from Burlington, VT (without any snow storms). So if I’m from Northern Ontario, what I am doing all the way in Vermont? Well, for the same reason that most Canadians come to study in the United States: to play hockey. I am a forward wearing #9 for the Varsity Women’s Ice hockey team at UVM. I have been playing hockey since I was 5 years old, so playing College hockey was always a dream of mine. Years of hard work and dedication on the ice and in the classroom really paid off as I find myself living the dream today as a UVM varsity athlete.
I started interning at RunVermont on January 1st 2013 and will be working alongside the RunVermont team until the end of May, after the MVP Health YAM scram. Being the youth intern, I perform several tasks, such as updating the Ready, Set, Run! Youth Fitness Program manuals and Youth Activity Tracking Calendar. Being a Dietetics major, I decided to incorporate some nutrition into the Youth Fitness Program as it truly plays a huge role in overall health and to promote healthy eating. For example, I included a weekly Healthy Food Challenge where I challenge the kids to eat a certain healthy food, which is accompanied by a couple fun facts about this food. My other duties consist of the following: contributing to the Youth Program’s social media presence, writing blog posts and monthly newsletter, facilitate with the planning and execution of youth program events, activities and races. I am really looking forward to the upcoming events and hope to see you there this Spring!
I wish you all the best this 2013!
Hi! My name is Sam and I am one of the communications and operations interns at RunVermont this spring. I am a senior at Saint Michael’s College, with a double major in Sociology and English. Though originally from Massachusetts, I’ve fallen hard for Vermont and all it has to offer. The hiking, the lake, the kind people, the mind-blowing beer… what’s not to love?
I’m thrilled to be at RunVermont this spring. I am learning so much that I’ll carry with me into future endeavors and having a blast in the meantime. After school, I hope to go into communications for a nonprofit, so this really is the ideal spot for me. And a view of Lake Champlain from the office? Come on. I got lucky.
Looking forward to seeing you all on race day! It’s going to be a fantastic experience for all who attend. Come out, whether you are a runner or a spectator. We cannot wait to see you there!
I’m Katie Brockway, one of two new Communications and Operations interns at RunVermont. I am from Rhode Island, also known as the smallest state in the country. And yes, if you were wondering, it only takes one hour to get from one side of the state to the other! I am currently a senior at Champlain College with a major in Communications and a focus in Marketing. I also have a English Springer Spaniel named Elliot. I love Kickboxing, Ripped, and Circuit training classes, but I do enjoy running as well. I am looking forward to the rest of my semester here at RunVermont and am excited for the marathon!
