2010 was a record year for marathons across the nation, including the KeyBank Vermont City Marathon. Participation is up, races are closing out faster than ever and it looks like it’s not going to slow down as we head into 2011. If the Boston Marathon is any indication of what to expect in 2011, we’re in for a great year. For those who haven’t heard, the B.A.A. closed registration for the 2011 race in just 8 hours! Last year it took about 8 weeks so this level of activity caught everyone by surprise.
One of the most frequently asked questions we receive is “when do I need to register so I don’t get closed out?” There is no easy answer to that question because our crystal ball is just not that good. If you want to be sure to secure a spot to run with us in 2011, don’t wait to register. In the last ten years, our fastest time to fill registration was 1 month and 2 days, and that goes back to 2003. Simply stated, we have no idea what to expect come Monday, November 1st, and we would hate to have you miss out on the most scenic spring marathon in New England.
The good news is the price is the same as last year, $85 until January 24th, when the price will increase to $95. There’s nothing we would like more than to fill the race completely at last year’s rate so don’t wait; sign up early. We’ll be sure to have our famed Burlington crowds ready to cheer you on come Sunday, May 29, 2011. Get in on the mania!
