As part of their ongoing pre-race coverage, WCAX features running-focused stories fit to inspire and inform.

From WCAX:

In just four weeks, thousands of runners will be gathering by Battery Park in Burlington to pound the pavement for 26-point-2 miles.  The KeyBank Vermont City Marathon is Sunday, May 29th.

Thirty six hundred people will compete in the full marathon.  Tonight, one of the best Vermont women in the field joins The :30 show.  Abbey Kaknes is 27-years old.

Kaknes is a multi-sport athlete, having played hockey for UVM. Also playing soccer as well.

Last year she was the top Vermont women’s finisher of the KeyBank Vermont City Marathon in 2-hours 57-minutes and 14 seconds.  Before the race, she told her sister that she hoped to break 3 hours 20 minutes.  “I never thought I’d come close to running a sub-three hour marathon,” she said.

She talks about her success and shares some insights for new runners.
