As part of their ongoing pre-race coverage, WCAX features running-focused stories fit to inspire and inform. This week’s segment features two of our favorite runners: our Rookie, Elizabeth Hagwood, and Marathon 101 instructor, Jess Cover.
From WCAX:
The KeyBank Vermont City Marathon is less than two weeks away.
Thirty six hundred runners are expected to run the full race on May 29th. The majority of those runners will be men, but women make up a bigger part of the field each year. That’s true here and in other marathons nationwide.
According to RunningUSA.com, in 1980 women made up only ten percent of runners competing in marathons in the United States. The portion of women runners has grown each year, and as of last year, women made up 41-percent of marathon runners in America. A 31-percent increase in thirty years.
Joining The :30 tonight for “Going the Distance” are Elizabeth Hagwood, a runner attempting her first marathon and her coach, Jess Cover.

Thanks to all the folks at WCAX, Run Vermont and Elizabeth; that was so fun!
it’s a good thing for the first few miles to chase down the short skirts to see their face. This challenge always works for me to get me all exited.
Anyway, without joking too much, it is a good trend and I hope many more women and men would start running to improve on their health.
