We began offering pace leaders for the KeyBank Vermont City Marathon in 2009.  This year, pace leaders are available for the following times: 3:30, 3:40, 3:45, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, 4:45, 5:00, and 5:30.  We have a great team of leaders and for the next nine weeks, we’ll feature introductions from each leaders every Wednesday and Friday.

3:40 Pace Leader Bud White with daughter, Katie

Hi! My name is Charles White, but mainly I go by Bud. My birthday is March 5, and I will be 62 this year. I’m married and have two daughters. My profile picture is of me and my daughter Katie from two years ago at the New England cross country championships at Franklin Park in Boston. Both girls ran through high school at BHS and in college, making running a big part of our family for many years. We have a yellow lab named Lucy and if you ever run in the New North End of Burlington you’ll most likely see the two of us in Leddy woods, on the bike path, or on the Burlington High School cross country course.

I began running in 1978 and ran my first marathon in 1980, the Marine Corps Marathon. I have run close to 100 hundred marathons, with my personal best being a 2:42 at the Rhode Island Marathon. I have run the Boston Marathon 17 times, the New York City Marathon 8 times, Montreal Marathon 20 times, the inaugural Walt Disney Marathon (which was quite exciting), many in between, and I have run our very own KeyBank Vermont City Marathon about ten times. In the early 90′s I ran VCM competitively, in the 2:40′s, but with age comes wisdom and I’m not trying to set any records! I have paced numerous friends in their first marathons, and accompanied many people just for the fun and love of the sport! I am looking forward to helping you achieve your goal of reaching the finish line in 3:40!

My morning routine before a marathon is as follows:
-get up 2.5 hours before the race
-I prefer a light meal, usually an english muffin and peanut butter or toast and jam, banana, yogurt (practice on your long runs makes perfect!…you don’t want any surprises on race day!)
-get to the line and enjoy!

Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!

Hey Bud! I’ll be in your group, sticking to you like glue. This will be my fifth marathon and I’ve finally realized that I need a good pace group to help get me to my goal.
Thanks so much for volunteering to do this for runners like me. I’m really looking forward to meeting you on race day!
