Congrats to Kim D. who won last week’s Giveaway for a $25 KeyPossibilities card!
This happens every January. Seemingly out of nowhere, the to-do list swells and the deadlines approach at a stunning pace. All of a sudden May 26 is “weeks away” (17 and change to be exact) rather than “months and months” away.
I shouldn’t be surprised. Six years into planning this race and you might think I’d expect it, plan for it, even. And we do. Plan for it, that is. (Remember to expect the sudden feeling of pressure, not so much.) Each year the team here at RVT pushes project plans earlier in the calendar in an attempt to get more done with more time to spare before race weekend. And it works; we’re further ahead this year than we were last and the year before that. But the funny thing about getting stuff done sooner, is that the space you created? The “extra” days? You don’t spend them sipping coffee, taking longer runs and upping your time for stretching from 5 seconds to 5 or 50 minutes. No. You add more projects, you do things bigger and better than you have in the past. Especially this year.
So here we are…January 24, 2013. Much like many of you who are kicking of training plans this week, we’re just getting started. The best is yet to come.
Before we get to today’s Giveaway, here are few important highlights from this week:

We’ll gift it to you via iTunes so you can download the songs to your permanent collection.

I’m using this one from the cool running website. http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_4/130.shtml I like how there’s a 26 mile run built in. By race day, I’ll know if I can do it or not and only have to deal with all of the first time race jitters.
I’m using Hal Higdon’s 10K training plan, hoping to win the relay lottery.
I shared on FB
and I follow the Run Down
I am Using the New York CIty Marathon Program and log in my works out in the New York Times web site “The Run-Well”:

I am using Fitness Magazine’s program

Following “Mike you need to get running” plan.. not a good week with these subzero temps. Okay a 16 week program for the VA Beach marathon..so hopefully will only need to maintain miles for VT City
I’m following the No Meat Athlete Marathon Roadmap! So far, it’s been great for this newbie
And I’m a follower of The Run Down via RSS.
I am using a self-made plan based on a Hal Higdon plan. I am not quite in the shape I’d like to be in to use my favorite plan, Pfitzinger’s. Next time!

And I tweeted (@missleah26)!
Aaaaaaand shared on Facebook. Can you tell I need new music?
Hal higdon!

I’m using Hal Higdon’s beginner marathon plan, and combining it with training for roller derby (practice 3x/week). I should be ready!

Always up for music! I am found an outline plan for free on a random site (there are many). I downloaded the excel file and just enter in the miles. So far I haven’t followed it exactly and I add in random cross training days for fun.

Oh, good giveaway! I haven’t gotten beyond the “Oh, crap. I need to start running in earnest” plan – but I just decided yesterday I’m running the full again, so I think I have a small grace period
.
I’m designing my own…it’s a compilation of Hal Higdon, Ironman training and my old track workouts
Don’t have a plan but I have a Coach, Coach Jess Cover who I started working with in the Marathon 101 class back in 2010 and have been following her advice every step since!
The Hanson’s plan that was in Runners World a couple of years ago is a great plan to train through a VT winter, as the long runs max out at 16 miles. Check it out at http://www.runnersworld.com/race-training/new-year-new-you-way-renegades?page=single. It helped me PR at Boston 2 years ago and I’m using it (as a guideline) again, but adding in some longer runs, as I kind of maxed out at 16 miles in my marathon … Happy training, everyone, and stay warm!

And shared on FB …
I’m training for a different half with the Jeff Galloway plan.
Using a plan by GMAA’s Coach Kasie.
I’m using one from Women’s Running for advanced beginner for the half

I love 80s music! That’s my favorite!
I’m using one of Jeff Galloway’s plans. The walk breaks give my knees a necessary break, and the training requires only three runs a week. Totally manageable.
I’m a follower through Google Reader.
I’m using a mix of crossfit and crossfit endurance training that I’ve modified to include a bit more mileage than most CFE plans. I’m interested in seeing how this works out (I’m not looking to PR, just finish feeling good and injury free).
I made my own but it is based on the Pete Pfitzinger 18/70 plan.

Hal Higdons Novice 2. Worked great last year and let me have a life too!
I’m following one that my girlfriend, or as I call her on training days “COACH”, has layed out for me. She is a 3 time marathoner and a certified crossfit instructor with a passion for running and training. My training program includes a Sunday long run which increases 1.5 miles each week, a shorter run mid-week which goes up and down, 2 interval running days and 1 crossfit/low-impact day. So far so good, looking forward to the Hyannis Half Marathon at the end of Feb to see how my training is coming along.
I am using a plan I found online, tweaked with the help of my amazing aunt who is a seasoned marathon runner. It has been great to have her support, guidence and words of encouragement through my first, second and now third VCM!!
Good ole Hal
I use the one that my running coach made for me! Lynn Grieger is the best!!
This time around I’m trying the Hanson’s Marathon Method. I’m hoping it will take me to a significant PR.
