Congratulations to Brad who won last week’s GIVEAWAY for a $25 KeyPossibilities card!
Registration for the KBVCM Relay Lottery closed on Tuesday, which means the finger drumming of hundreds of team captains and their potential teammates has begun. We’ll send notifications to everyone who registered between February 14-17 to let you know if you got in (or not).
If you don’t get in from the lottery, take note: we have a very active message board where folks sell teams they can’t use; we’ll post step-by-step instructions for using the boards before the notifications go out. Teams may not be sold for more than face value (on the message board or elsewhere), so don’t worry that you’ll pay more using the message board to get a team.
In other news, we’re very excited to announce that the KeyBank Vermont City Marathon has been honored with TWO Vermont Sports Magazine Black Diamond of Excellence Awards!
KBVCM was voted “Best Running Race (Marathon or Half Marathon)” and “Race with Best Crowd” by Vermont Sports readers! Thank you for your support; awards like these that reflect the opinion of our community mean a lot to all of us here at RunVermont, especially as we’re reaching the time of year when the pace here at race headquarters increases dramatically. Your support and recognition reminds us why we’re so dedicated to making KBVCM (and all RunVermont races) the very best they can be.
Today we’re giving away another surprise item from the RunVermont store! We’re not posting a picture of the item because we have a great variety of items available in just one or two sizes so what you get will depend on what size the winner requests. Cool: surprise mail!

My first half marathon was incredible! The Adirondack Marathon Distance Festival in Schroon Lake New York in 2006. The race was hot and scenic, but jumping straight into the lake and eating ice cream on the beach afterward was an amazing feeling!

I would say my favorite race experience was my first VT Corporate Cup 5K about 4 years ago. It was the first race I ever ran. I was so nervous and didn’t truly believe I could finish it. It was so rewarding to cross the finish line!

Last year I ran Boston for the first time. I wasn’t expecting much due to the (lack of) winter training so I started out slow and maintained pretty consistent splits. By the time I got to mile 25 I was feel great and was feeding off of the crowd’s energy. At mile 26, when I’m normally begging for the finish line, I kept think “This is awesome! This is the best experience ever!” Talk about a runner’s high! It was amazing to have so much crowd support throughout the entire route.

Boston 2010. It truely lives up to all the hype!
My first race ever was the best. I ran in the Disney Halloween 5K a couple years ago and it was a blast! Running through Magic Kingdom with music and Disney characters everywhere was the perfect introduction to racing. I was instantly hooked and am now a proud race-addict.
My best ever race experience was running the St. Jude half-marathon in Memphis with my brother two years ago. It was his first race, so it was really special for me to get to run alongside him and coach him along. It was a great feeling to cross the finish line together
Imogene Pass Run , Ouray to Telluride, Colorado. 17miles, up to 13,000 ft. for the first 10 miles, then 7 down historic Tom Boy Rd.in the Marshal Basin on the Telluride side. Beautiful, tough, exillarating!
My last half at Portland was great! Despite being delayed by a train to the start, warming up only to the bathroom and losing my race/training partners, I PR’d by 3 minutes and got to run with Joan Benoit for a bit! I was a giant milestone in the quest towards a BQ!

It is the annual 5 mile run on New Years Day and then jump into Long Island Sound(Ct). It always feels great to be back for another year and celebrate just being there. It starts in front of john Kelley’s house (now deceased), winner of the Boston Marathon. He used to come out and greet us. Also, Amby Burfoot from Runners World magazine is one of the organizers. Many people wear costumes. Everyone is smiling and laughing. It is always a perfect day.

Running the Vermont Remembers 10k at Camp Johnson; not only was it a great course; but thinking of all the individuals who have/are fighting for our freedom during the race was awe inspiring. Especially after watching several units ruck march or run with all their gear and 25lbs bags on; Amazing.
My best race experience was my first half marathon because I trained and ran the race with my mom!
Oddly enough, my best race was last June, I am a Girls on the Run coach and in June the girls did their 5k run, it poured most of the race and preface, it was a blast splashing through the puddles like a kid, just enjoying the moment.
100 on 100 relay last August. It was such a blast to be with a group of runner friends for an extended period of time, doing what we all love! Definitely a repeat this year!

My favorite race so far was the Santa Race ~ what’s more fun than running with hundreds of Santas!?!?
First year of the Pittsfield snowshoe Marathon. Post race meal included lobster, shrimp and beer..and race bag included a running vest. Oh yeah, the course was a killer. All about the food.
Last year’s VCM. I think I actually ran the whole thing and enjoyed it!

My best race was a New Years day 5K and polar plunge. It was my first running experience and I had zero training. I struggled throughout the whole run but when I finished I was so happy that I had made it.
