Congratulations to Janet, winner of last week’s GIVEAWAY THURSDAY! Janet won a swell KBVCM bag, hat and t-shirt.
I saw many familiar faces at the Leaf Peepers 5k and Half Marathon in Waterbury, VT this weekend. Did any of you manage to have great race despite the miserable weather? I wish I could say that I did, but despite feeling well-trained I never quite got into my groove and finished several minutes slower than I had hoped. Several days later,I’m seeing the sun shine for the first time in nearly a week and I can’t help but feel a little giddy about the possibility of a little personal rematch…
Last week the Green Mountain Athletic Association (GMAA) announced the return of the a fall half-marathon event to their calendar. The Green Mountain Half Marathon will take place in conjunction with the Green Mountain Marathon on October 16. I think it might be just the opportunity I need to finish a race feeling strong. Considering it yourself? Registration closes today (Oct 6) so hop to it!
Speaking of good training, now that a few hundred of you have signed up to participate in the 2012 KeyBank Vermont City Marathon, you need some snazzy official gear to train in. This week we’re giving away one limited edition 2012 InTraining shirt.
The shirt comes in both women’s and men’s styles. The women’s shirt is navy blue with sea green contrasting panels. The men’s is navy with grey contrasting panels. Tech specs: Alo brand, 100% polyester birdseye knit jacquard long sleeve t-shirt. Dry wicking and anti-microbial performance capabilities. Contrast panel at side-seams and underarms. Contrast color coverstitching at shoulders, armholes, cuffs and bottom hem. Trust me; these are nice shirts!
If you already purchased your shirt when you registered and happen to win the GIVEAWAY, we’ll credit you the cost of the shirt. Don’t want to risk the shirts selling out between now and next week when we announce the winner? They’re available through KBVCM registration and also at the RunVermont store.

BTW, I am running in the Essex Junction Halloween 5k. I made a cool hippie costume. I am also attempting it with a broken shoulder. Don’t worry, I have a very secure sling and have trained in it this past week. I had to pull out of Leaf Peepers and Cape Cod Marathon, so at least I will do something:)
Looking forward to the Turkey Trot in Portland, ME. I do it with my sister every Thanksgiving and it’s always a blast!

There is nothing like a waldorf chicken salad or sandwich to eat during the fall made with freshly picked apples:) A delicious creation to enjoy after a fall 10k!
I ran Leaf Peepers and didn’t mind the weather! I don’t have formal plans for my next race until VCM – but things come up and I just sign up as I see them so you never know what’s next.
No link – but I love to make my own homemade applesauce from apples we picked locally – usually Adams Apple Orchard. I don’t cook them all the way down, leave them a bit firm and throw it into a blender. I leave small chunks – and my kids love it!
Looking forward to the Green Mountain Marathon.
Homemade apple sauce! Cook the apples down with a little bit of water, some slices of lemon with the rind left on, and a pinch of cinnamon. Once the apples have been simmered until soft enough, take the lemon slices out and run the apples through a food mill.
