Sports & Fitness EXPO is expanding
In an effort to keep offering new and fresh services, while continuing to bring back the long time favorites, we will fill both floors of the Sheraton Conference Center in 2010.
New Timing System
This year we will make the switch from using ChampionChips to the D-Tag system. This disposable, one time use timing system means you won't be required to have the chip scanned for "activation" at the EXPO, or turn anything in at the finish. You will find the tag attached to the bib in your registration packet, and then transfer it to your shoe before the race starts. We will post complete instructions for using the D-Tag here in the coming months. There will be a D-Tag info booth at the EXPO as well.
2 Person Exchange Zone Relocated
That's right, we're moving the 2 Person Relay Exchange back into the heart of Oakledge Park. While not entirely finalized at this time, we expect to have the exchange occur near the tennis courts, with each team member running a complete 13.1 mile distance. The move is necessary to provide the level of runner and spectator services required of an event of our caliber. This means that we will also make some modifications to the second half of the course.
Course Modifications
In order to accommodate the modifications in Oakledge Park we will make other adjustments to ensure that we have a true course distance of 26.2 miles, adhering to all USATF standards while maintaining the overall character and spirit of the race. There are several options currently under consideration and we expect to have a determination of the final route by mid-December. All told, the modification in Oakledge Park "moves" the course by about 1000'. That same distance must be "removed" from the last half of the course. No need for concern though as the course changes being considered are very minor adjustments. We will post a revised map as soon as changes are complete.
Pasta Dinner Moves Into The Public Arena
There's nothing like a good Pasta Dinner Party and this year we are turning to some folks from the local community to transform this tradition into something that will be remembered for delicious food and great camaraderie. Stay tuned in the coming months for more details.
Post Race Party At Waterfront Park
Simply stated, bigger and better than ever, the post-race party is a part of the event to be enjoyed by the whole family and all your friends.
When to Register for KBVCM:
When to register for the KeyBank Vermont City Marathon:
Here’s what we know:
- The 2010 registration pace is significantly ahead of last year (over 25%) and if it continues unabated we will reach the cap of 3600 runners.
- This is vastly different from the last two years when the race was conducted without a marathon capacity.
- Other races are reporting similar registration performances for next year, suggesting a continuing trend of increasing participation.
- Early closures of prominent races like Boston may be causing runners to seek alternative spring races like the KeyBank Vermont City Marathon.
So that’s why it’s difficult to project, but if you don’t want to be left on the sidewalks cheering, register soon. .. We offer a deferral program for the unexpected circumstances; you will not be refunded this year's marathon fee, but you will only pay $50 of the entry fee for 2011.
