First Run 2008 boasted the race's biggest crowds in the event's twenty year history. Tim Kavangh served as the celebrity starter, blowing the horn at 11 a.m. for the start of the 5k. Over 430 hearty souls participated in the run, including 16 kids under the age of 13. Forty-two children ran in the 1-mile Fun Run led by a fire truck from Burlington BPD.
More people than ever arrived in costume which included a group of surfers, the crew from the Wizard of Oz, Father Time and Baby New Year, a penguin father and son team, a gingerbread man, "Beaker" from the Muppets and many more.
After the event participants filled the memorial Auditorium basement to enjoy delicious soup generously donated by Garden of Eatin', fresh rolls from Great Harvest, Ben & Jerry's ice cream, cider, cake and fruit donated by Hannaford, fine cheeses from Smokejack's and Starbucks coffee.
An array of prizes were awarded to first, second and third place finshers, costumed particpants and bib numbers drawn from a hat. See the complete list of prize contributors below.
